Since Easter Sunday is not really a holiday, we have Pasquetta or “Little Easter” the following day. This is a civic holiday to balance the religious one. So, “Pasqua di rinascita, Pasquetto di festo.” “Easter is for rebirth, Easter Monday is for partying.” And, it should come as no surprise, that for some institutions (including the Vatican), offices are closed on Tuesday for good measure

At a fundraising dinner a woman, unknown to me, asks earnestly for a picture with her. Of course, I figure my memory has failed once again and hope to blunder through this encounter by saying nothing. After the picture she says, “You know, you are the image of Pope John Paul II.” I guess this is similar to armchair travel, only a lot less satisfying. At least those travel books are about the real thing!
