"Collective Pause" - Openings Fall 2020

Openings is a seasonal exhibition of visual art organized by the Paulist Fathers, and curated by Fr. Frank Sabbate. Openings seeks to foster conversations among artists, and explore connections between creativity and spirituality.

For our Fall Exhibit, artists are responding to this question: How are you, as an artist, navigating, persisting, and engaging with the challenges of a global pandemic, social & political upheavals, and the struggle for justice? In your creative effort to discern the boundary between relevancy and distraction how are you cultivating and expressing the notion of a “collective pause”?

In a changed world, our fall show is a bold experiment: artists were invited to paint ephemeral murals that will be left exposed and vulnerable to the elements and the city. Their work is on display along the outside of the church on West 60th Street from October 18th through December 4th.

If you can't make it to New York to see "Collective Pause" for yourself, a selection of the incredible artwork on display can be viewed below!
